Just been reading on another forum of an american denouncing her citizenship.. What a tool...
Nothing in the world would ever make me do that. I cannot write what my reaction would be if I was talking face to face to someone and they announced that to me..
Good riddance.

OK .. I'll bite ..
In my (limited) knowledge the likely common reason to do that is if the person concerned has moved to and lives in a foreign country and got fed up with continuing to be obliged to pay their taxes to the US. I know a couple of ex-US people who have done that .. and very nice people they are too.
OTOH some people become so disgusted with what their home country gets up to they simply want to distance themselves from that country by more than just miles.
I don't have a problem with either of those stances.

Is that not an obligation for an American seeking citizenship in France or indeed any country?

Good riddance. Do you feel that way about Aardvark?
Did you express your views as robustly on the other forum where at least the member will know what is being said about her?

If I was American or English I would get out too. Bloody yanks with their guns and antidemocratic republicans and Bojo and his lies is enough to want to spit.

Boris Johnson renounced his US citizenship a few years ago subsequent to losing an appeal against tax owed on his worldwide income. However this was spun as him commiting to his Britishness as the reason for renunciation.
