1.106 this morning with Lloyds.
Would it be more beneficial to use some other service ?
I was struggling for the most suitable adjective. Prestidigitatior would fit better.

Is it always so dependent on someone pressing the right buttons? I will wait until their error gives me a huge advantage. Of course it could be great going the other way….. or have I missed the point completely?

I have just pointed out to oh that gong by the figures previously given she would have been better of to the tune of £88 / 1000. Her reply was ‘ I cannot be Rsed with that’ I find it curious that she seems more concerned with orang utans and grandchildren.
Perhaps I should just give up now rather than try to get her to understand Cartesian Dualism……
or have I made some mistake in my calculations

Definitely .. create an account with Wise. I changed some money on Wednesday with them and their rate was £1= 1.152€. Their costs to me were under £5 - which they take from what they send to your French bank.

Very happy with Wise. The other evening when the 1,15 rate was mentioned, I did a transfer and it was in my French account in 4 secs.

Also try Revolut. €1.148 today. Free transfers to French bank so what you send is what you get & the transfer is instant.

Try Resolut if you don't mind not being covered by the financial protection offered by UK registered banks.

Nonsense once again. At the moment Revolut is not a bank and doesn’t claim to be. It is mainly used for international transfers or “holiday spending money” and works well around the world. As far as I am aware Wise do not have a banking licence either. My understanding with Revolut is that a banking licence is imminent. Which then would enable secure deposits to be made. The thread was about transferring money. If you choose to use either Wise or Revolut & do an instant transfer then they are not holding on to your money for any period of more than a few seconds.

I don't change money , but I have always wondered how money changing companies make their money , if what you change is in your account immediatley, or is there a charge ?

I don't change money , but I have always wondered how money changing companies make their money , if what you change is in your account immediatley, or is there a charge ? The only charge made is for the loading of one currency to, say, Wise, and them delivering a different currency to a Bank account in a different country. For us £ to € costs around £4 per £1000 exchanged .. it gets cheaper if you move a larger amount. There is no charge by the receiving French Bank. My last transaction took 4 secs Bank to Bank .. plus the keying in time by me, naturally. When we arrived 18 years ago a transfer used to cost £25 but then the likes of Wise, Currency Fair changed the game .. including the time frame. It used to take up to 3 days for an exchange to arrive .. unless you paid extra and rec'd the money the next day .. but that was another £20/25.

Fully automated. You set up the transfer on the Wise website. The money is paid into their account where the exchange is done and then sent to your French bank. It used to take up to two days but now it is only a matter of seconds. I have never paid more than £2.50 for a transfer but then I'm not rich like the rest of you. Bank to bank using banks to do the movement were costing me £15 to send and €20 to receive years ago. What they call a "no brainer".
