Hi Sue, I've made the most of the available tax-free savings here, but still dithering about the balance . It's extremely tempting to spend it on solar panels, fast cars and a toy-boy, and be damned to the future

Inflation is falling in Eurozone but not so in U.K. Hence there is expectation of higher interest rates and dealers are trading euros for £

Anti UK tosh on here once again.
The UK inflation rate dropped sharply to 8.7 percent in April 2023, down from 10.1 percent in the previous month. Prior to April, the UK experienced seven months of double-digit inflation which peaked at 11.1 percent in October 2022. Source Statista.com
Euro area annual inflation is expected to be 6.1% in May 2023, down from 7.0% in April according to a flash estimate from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. D
UK rate is for April where as Euro area rate is for May so not a lot of difference.
Could it be people are moving out of the Euro to the GBP because it’s a safer long term bet ?

I'll try another quiche at the weekend and if I muck it up (consonant please Rachel, an F if possible) and sterling continues to rise than we'll know......if however the quiche turns out well and sterling falls.............
perhaps I'll stick to pasta.

Ha! So it's you that's been causing the exchange rate to drop just before pension day?! Cooking sausages? Aardvark would like a word with you....

Aren't we all? I'm trying to get my head around us all hanging on what the Americans do/don't do affecting so much of the western world. This is a country that's trillions of dollars in debt and can only function by going ever deeper into debt The 'richest' nation in the world?? It's all a bit cock-eyed, isn't it?

It's all cock-eyed full stop. I gave up trying to understand a long time ago. I keep my head down in my wonderful community here and just worry about how my daughter is. Keeps me going. That and the sausages.... oops and the wine :
