Anti UK tosh on here once again. The UK inflation rate dropped sharply to 8.7 percent in April 2023, down from 10.1 percent in the previous month. Prior to April, the UK experienced seven months of double-digit inflation which peaked at 11.1 percent in October 2022. Source Statista.com Euro area annual inflation is expected to be 6.1% in May 2023, down from 7.0% in April according to a flash estimate from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. D UK rate is for April where as Euro area rate is for May so not a lot of difference. Could it be people are moving out of the Euro to the GBP because it’s a safer long term bet ? From that twaddle I think I can safely say you do not have a clue how the money markets work. One thing I can tell you is that the GBP will never be a safe long term bet, whilst sitting all alone on an island.

It’s based around speculation that the U.K. is in such dire straits that the BoE will have to raise interest rates again on Thursday It's possible, but I doubt it personally. £ has been way oversold for a longtime now, and I suspect that there will be even worse news coming from the eurozone. ( I worked in the FX markets almost all my career and so obviously know what I am talking about.....hence my retiring on a pittance... ) I think you may know, If on average Sterling is stronger at the beginning of the week or the end?

Never mind the £/€ rate. The €/litre of petrol is poor. Just paid 1,93€/litre of 95.

Not really sure. Most economic data seems to be released Wednesday or Thursdays so I tend to let things settle down at the end of the week and convert sterling Sunday/monday.

This is a question I have often wondered about. I have often noticed a rise on Wednesday/Thursday but it usually manages to nosedive on Friday, the day of my pension. It is difficult to squeeze by without transferring most of it as soon as it is available.
