Jackie, it remains to be seen whether he is or was a theatrical buffoon or whether he has the ability to come back as a real statesman. Given the load of mediocrities in Parliament at the moment, on both sides, he has a good chance but as what? And how will history judge him?

Given the load of mediocrities in Parliament at the moment, on both sides, he has a good chance but as what? And how will history judge him? He had his chance to prove himself the great statesman. After all you usually get only one chance of being Prime Minister. So why didn’t he do it then? Because he lacks the necessary qualities that’s why. He’s no buffoon either, that was simply all an act. In reality he’s a unpleasant narcissist who thinks he’s above the usual checks and balances applied to others.

I don't think he can make a comeback. His flush has been busted and most people see through him now. Like the song from The Emperor’s New Clothes goes - ‘The king is in the altogether now, altogether now…….’ Little Rishi in waving through Johnson’s honours list just before he resigned has proved himself more accountant than politician On the contrary, I think it was a very astute political move. As Wooly has said, the Tory party is full of mediocracy. Rishi's only serious opponent would be Boris. By allowing most of Boris's "jobs for the boys" list go through, he has at one fell swoop discredited Boris.

In answer to woolybanana. Of course she doesn't know him. What a silly statement. Jackie's opinion echos the opinion of many who know him personally. On top of that you've only got to look at his history - his character stands out a mile.

Nigel Adams (a big mate of Bojo) has resigned now. When I first typed this it put bog instead of big - probably more appropriate.

I know this will nark at least one person but it is the truth, anyone who thinks Johnson is anything other than a complete arse is clearly missing something up top.

Ah, jackie, you know him personally, then?😵💫 No. Just applying a bit of critical thinking based on his track record and facts and I’m far from being the only one drawing the same conclusions.

At least that's 3 wingnuts out of Parliament in the past day. There are plenty remaining on the government benches, of course, and hopefully the continued presence of right wing loons such as Braverman, Rees- Mogg, Cash, Fabricant et al continue to demonstrate the cancer at the heart of government.

he called the committee a "kangaroo court" whose purpose "has been to find me guilty, regardless of the facts".

Conservative MPs are in a majority on the committee, with four MPs, there are two Labour MPs and one SNP MP. The balance of the committee reflects the balance of parties in the House of Commons as a whole.
Johnson was quoted as saying that he had been mauled by Harriet Harman, the chair of the committee; the chair doesn’t vote unless there’s a tie - which there wasn’t in this case. There were mutters that having a Labour MP in the chair was a fix, just to get Johnson out, but traditionally the chair is a member of opposition.
The fundings of the committee are due to be published from tomorrow, 12th June, and will be voted on in a free vote by the House of Commons, which can choose to accept, reject, or amend the proposed sanctions.

There's an old saying in the part of West London where I came from: If it looks like a prat, acts like a prat, speaks like a prat, then it is a prat. Simple really and I didn't even need to know him personally
