Speaking to a brother in the UK earlier, he tells me they have Lateral Flow Tests weekly which they get from the chemists. Do these exist in France ?

You can get an autotest kit from the chemist's - they cost about 5€.
You can't use the result as a pass sanitaire though.

Thanks for the replies.
Can you only get a PCR test with a prescription from a doctor in France ?

No, there are many test centers around France which are drive in, we went to one for our return to UK, they are free for French residents, but tourists have to pay now, 46 Euros I think
I booked via DoctoLib

Nope, we just booked at our nearest centre via Doctolib, turned up and got 2 free tests (the day before charging for them started) no questions asked.......and OK for travel back to UK, got the results by 2000 that day

and yes, sorry forgot to say, in the UK, you can order a 7 pack of LF tests free of charge for now, delivered to your home, or collect from locations also free around the country.
We have many packs so we can test when we visit dentists/doctors etc, get some next time you are back in the UK?

I'm confused things keep changing that fast! What sort of cost is involved for a family of 3 coming to France from England & return (not counting flights of course). Seems to me the cost of tests would be prohibitive for just a few days holiday.
We are thinking of booking ferry for September, here to Plymouth. So The cost that way would be a free test here + a 2 day test in the UK, is that right? Assuming of course things don't change again before then. In the past 18 month we have booked/cancelled/re booked a ferry six times.
I presume if the test in the UK happens to be +ve then you have to go into quarantine (hotel or place where you are staying?)

I'm not intending to take the day 2 test personally.

Seems to me the cost of tests would be prohibitive for just a few days holiday. Just planning a weekend up in the UK after school hols finish. It’s beginning to look like the UK day two test will cost quite a bit more than the ticket for France > UK flight…..why am I not surprised? The cynic in me suspects there will be a lot of vested interests lobbying for testing in the UK to continue as long as possible and then beyond………. With regard to France>UK>France and testing positive on the day two in the UK..AFAIK you are supposed to follow whatever UK guidance is at the time for the appropriate level of vaccination…and of course there’s the issue that I think it’s still a requirement that on arrival back in France you still have to affirm you’ve not knowingly had contact with anybody with Covid in the previous 14 days…

As I understand it, you will need 3 PCR tests 72 hours or less before your embarkation on the ferry, these are free in France if you are resident I believe, but not for tourists anymore, these cost 46 Euros for tourists, you then need pre booked, 3 x 2 days tests to take in the UK, but must be booked before your embarkation, the cost of these varies enormously cheapest for day 2 only is about 50 quid a test........

Our local lab. in Montreuil does the tests which are free for residents. The 2 day UK one costs about £50 per test. Do folk fully vaccinated in France returning after a visit to the UK need a test?

I must admit I thought now France > UK an antigen test was acceptable, not just a PCR. UK> France - no test post arrival. Here’s that flow diagram again
