A good Chinese takeaway/restaurant. The local Asian ones here are not the same as the Chinese ones in the U.K. Probably because a lot of them are Vietnamese? Our local Chinese buffet place is amazing. They don't do takeaways, much less deliveries, but the range of dishes available there twice a day every day is to die for. It's the 'go-to' resto now when there's a big group of us, as it's guaranteed that everyone will find plenty to choose from and can eat as much or as little as they want. My only major dislikes here are radars and stupid, unnecessary speed limits masquerading as 'sécurité', when it's obviously just a money-grabbing racket on the part of the Government.

The local Asian ones here are not the same as the Chinese ones in the U.K. That has always baffled me, we used to travel 45 minutes to an Asian Supermarket in Rennes where you could buy all the same ingredients that a UK Chinese restaurant or takeaway had access to and supposedly as could the French Chinese. We could make a good stab at most noodle dishes but have never quite mastered egg fried rice which I can eat just on its own. I too love egg fried rice, watched Ken Hom make it on Saturday Kitchen and followed his method ever since, you’ll be able to find it on the web, but it hinges I think on barely defrosted rice for some reason I don’t understand, but it does work

It's more the method I'd like suggestions for, as my recipe says to pour the beaten egg into hot oil, but that just cooked it instantly to a large omelette ball! I'll try to fine the Ken Hom video.

We use two Asian Supermarkets and in both we regularly meet and greet the proprietors of several Asian (Chinese, Thaï and Viet) restos that we use. Indeed some of the products that we purchase are easily spotted in the restaurants.

If someone could post the Ken Hom method as a link that would be great.
I have tried using day old rice kept in the fridge and that does make the grains separate and not go into a ball, but if it does go a bit mushy, you can then add all the ingredients and make into meatball size balls and we bake them but you could fry, they are pretty delicious with some Chinese curry sauce (shop bought like bisto gravy powder) or a sweet and sour sauce (shop bought).
Loving the thread drift, we should find land by daybreak !

If I had to choose one major dislike it would be 'La Chasse', for several months of the year the participants takeover the countryside making it unsafe for anyone else. Unfortunately, the hunting lobby is so powerful at a national and local level that any widespread reforms are virtually impossible so the injuries and deaths of innocent 'non participants' will continue unabated.

six deaths in 2022 caused by hunting compared with just under 10 a day on the road, which one is continuing unabated?

six deaths in 2022 caused by hunting compared with just under 10 a day on the road, which one is continuing unabated? Yes but it is the terror they reign down on people, our friends live opposite a wooded gully where all forms of wildlife live as there are pools and streams that run through it and the chasse surround it and basically it is shooting fish in a barrel no skill or hunting involved, our friends cannot walk their dog off their property when there is any sign of them present, no members of the public to my knowledge has been hurt but our friends house is peppered with gun shots, by the afternoons after a boozy lunch they are singing in the woods, scaring off the wildlife and letting off random shots. It is all old boys and the occasional middle aged son that has been dragged along, sad all round really.

If you kill someone by driving dangerously you'll end up in prison, shoot an innocent bystander whilst hunting you won't.
