For another peeve. How about the difficulty of reaching a live body to sort out a problem with a UK based company by telephone, or the same problem getting any response at all via email in France. Life seems to require everything done by a bloody app but when something goes wrong it is near impossible to sort. Three days now OH trying to make contact about her UK pension. So far impossible by phone. Messages left to an email service get an automated response promising attention within ten days.

Know exactly what you mean, been trying to contact HMRC recently, got cut off after waiting ages so sent an email on 22/2 which should have been responded to in 19 days - still waiting.
Not much better with CPAM here in France. When we first moved here there were reps everywhere you could go and see, even in our little village there was a once a week rep in the nursing home you could go and see without a rdv. After constant cock ups following Mr Jackie’s receipt of an S1 we decided to arrange a rdv at St Brieuc using the amelie website - anyway after dealing with that (god knows how the elderly without young computer savvy relatives cope) we turned up and were dealt with by the friendly security guard we finally met with someone face to face who pleasantly sorted it out for us - for now anyway until the next update………….

If you need to speak to someone, try the following. Go onto HMRC website. Find the webchat page. Select the subject. Put in loose details about your problem. Once you have started the chat you'll reach an impasse and then type ADVISOR. You'll then be put in direct chat with a person who actually knows what they are talking about and should get proper assistance.
