Even BE couldn't think it was going well, surely?

The HGV-driver shortage, and the petrol situation, was just on the evening news here. I'm sure it won't be long before a politician is brave enough to say publicly that, in hindsight, Brexit was not such a good idea.
Before the UK (apologies to our Scottish, Welsh, and Irish members for being unwillingly dragged in) can stand alone in its brave new world, it needs to learn to stand alone in its own backyard.

It's a sort of perfect storm of Brexit, Covid, incompetent government and the Little Englander belief in their innate superiority.
Already NI has been hived off into a sort of political and commercial purdah, the Scots are discovering ever more reason to get out of their poisoned Union, even the Welsh are realising that the milk from the English nipple is turning sour.
Yes, UK is turning into a pile of ordure.

Fortunately he's blocked me so can't get uppity when I say that, in my opinion, he is typical of the petty-minded Little Englander that still, in spite of all sense, thinks England is the epicentre of human perfection and that simply being English is itself the pinnacle of achievement. I'm not sure the Irish, Scots and many Welsh are too happy that this insularity is dragging them out of the longest period of peace and property since human feet first walked on European soil. Yes, it's shit.

And did you mean to type 'property' or 'prosperity'? I appreciate you're not on a moving bus, but you are older than me and possibly losing it a little faster.

By the way, I agree with you when you say "in my opinion, he is typical of the petty-minded Little Englander that still, in spite of all sense, thinks England is the epicentre of human perfection and that simply being English is itself the pinnacle of achievement".

On Sky tonight they had an interview with a thick Brit who was head of a transporter group. He blamed Covid, no mention of Brexit.

If he sees something he doesn't like, he's either got to respond and open himself up to more, or bite his tongue...

Personally, I can't wait until tomorrow to see the latest shortage. Fingers crossed, its Tories. My daughter tells me clients were returning vehicles today with part empty tanks as there's no diesel to be had in our area. In addition Esso stations are running out of petrol. The Express not helping this morning by reporting a shortage as critical, which it wasn't.

I spent wasted some time today discussing the situation online with someone who was insisting that problems like the supply of the basics, lorry drivers, inflation and the rest were down to Covid. He did eventually edit his point of view to being mainly down to Covid but maintained that Brexit had had no effect on any of the problems. I’m not sure that I belong on that site because a lot of others were calling me names and he was getting lots of likes. These people really believe the cr@p they spout even when their lives are directly affected. By the way, in case you didn’t know, food banks were caused by ba$t@rd foreign lorry drivers who insisted on working for low wages. That’s just one of the gems I picked up this afternoon. Isn’t education a wonderful thing. 🙂

How dare those ba$t@rd foreign lorry drivers come here to earn a bit more money to better their lives! We're better off without them....um, actually, no, we're not, why are we in this situation? Because those ba$t@rd foreign lorry drivers don't want to aren't allowed to come here any more.
