How dare those ba$t@rd foreign lorry drivers come here to earn a bit more money to better their lives! We're better off without them....um, actually, no, we're not, why are we in this situation? Because those ba$t@rd foreign lorry drivers don't want to aren't allowed to come here any more. You were probably right before the edit although they are not allowed either. The standard of living and quality of life back in their home countries has gone up enormously. Why will the UK not grant special visas. 1. As they say it does not solve the problem and perhaps holds down pay levels in the UK for UK drivers. As quoted by government yes men - yes Shapps that is you. 2. They prbably won't come anyway and certainly not in the numbers needed. Nothing like launching a lifeboat with holes in it.

Having just spent 10 days in the south of England there seems to be a sense of 'acceptance' not just of the Brexit consequences but also of the level of daily Covid infections and deaths.

Yes, that is true, especially the Covid deaths. 18 months ago 200 deaths a day would have everyone quivering in a corner. Now? It's not even a topic of conversation. There's more anxiety about not getting petrol than dying of Covid. Strange mentality.

It’s interesting how the UK MSM go out of their way to avoid mentioning the ‘B’ word in their reporting of the energy crisis, supply chain problems, labour shortages etc. It’s the same in Europe they say. Is it? Not noticed any empty shelves or closed petrol stations here in Brittany. Talk about the elephant in the room....

It is a problem here as well Jackie. It is just not as big (yet).
Europe (the continent) is said to be short of 400,000 drivers. Of those 100,000 are the UK shortage. What you see in the UK could well come to haunt us here too unless there are changes. It may take 5-10 years but without changes it will come.

And the solution, according to the immense brain power of the tory government is to lower the standards that lorry drivers need to achieve. So eventually there will be less skilled drivers trundling about. Look on the bright side. Car drivers won't have any petrol so they won't have to be out there trying to avoid the carnage.

And a trail of tasty treats leading to the channel ports and Ryanair hubs?

Are these mythical drivers going to be paid in £’s, $’s, €’s or Bitcoin.

Always assuming that EU drivers want to go to the UK; there are shortages in the EU that they can fill before thinking about crossing the Channel.

And not take the risk of being made unwelcome once they cross the Channel.
