Going back to the title of this thread, I think waking up this morning to the news that there will be immediate issue of visas for truck drivers and chicken pluckers from EU, I agree with it, except I would add a plus to the Sh@t. It has not taken long for the the first leaks in brexit to appear. I am now waiting for the sodbusters to wade in and say that the sprouts will not be on the christmas table resulting in another waive of visas issued. Ummm “ guest workers” on short term Visas /contracts, presumably with no right to stay once the contract is done, and do we know yet rights with regard to being accompanied by family, where they are going to be accommodated… All starting to sound a bit like one or two places in/around the Gulf…… The USA offers many thousand visas for migrant farm workers who go back home with USD in their pockets so why cannot the little island plog?

Presumably some of those who are currently ‘ resting ‘ might get back to work and the DVLA might get off its arse and get the new licences out which it has been holding up.

I thought part of the problem was that due to Covid there was a huge backlog in HGV test appointments with as many as 40000 waiting to take a test.

Because central Americans are rich with their pockets stuffed with a few dollars. Czech, Latvian, Bulgarian drivers will not be very rich at all with their pockets stuffed with pounds. Slightly better off perhaps but at the cost of disruption to their and their family's' lives.

“The USA offers many thousand visas for migrant farm workers who go back home with USD in their pockets so why cannot the little island plog” Can it (“guest worker”) be done on “the little island” ? Yes of course it can …I’m well aware it’s pretty much a permanent feature of some countries. Problem as I see it is if it is used, especially to cover skilled jobs, it gives those UK employers so inclined a continued excuse to not invest in training and/or provide decent T&Cs ….I can’t see that playing well with the “British jobs for British workers brigade..”

They came before Brexit, why not now? They might, they might not, especially if any such deal was short term only, no job no right to continued residence, no provision for family to accompany the worker etc, which is how it works in some parts of the world. I think the Tories would be skating on thin ice with a large part of the electorate if such schemes became a permanent feature of the UK industrial and business scene but I suspect some of the larger employers/Tory party donors might be very keen on such an idea.

Did I get it wrong, but, isn't the point of Brexit being all about stopping immigration and "foreign" work forces?
That's going well now isn't it.
T***s!

Privately educated tw@t who has assets in off-shore investments. Lorry driving is a very skilled profession - would you like such a massive vehicle downing on you in a piddling little Kia with an untrained person at the wheel. Perhaps South Africa is where you should have stayed (sic).

Even BE couldn't think it was going well, surely? Personal attack, totally wrong for an opening post.

But, but, but this is Great Great Britain, surely they’ll be queuing up to take advantage of this 3 month special offer to drive in our hallowed lands after being told you’re not wanted so piss off back home oh and now we’re in a bit of a pickle and you’re only wanted to get us out of it and then you can piss off again. Oh yeah and there’s no facilities for you to get a decent priced meal or get a hot shower of an evening like there is on the continent ‘cos local councils don’t provide them and did we mention you’re not really welcome anyway.....Oh no takers then, can’t think why.....yours sincerely Boris Johnson
