Because omce they have applied for asylum in France there are no grounds to allow them into any other country. Then maybe they are not as desperate to find a safe haven as has been made out. Many of them have also paid large sums of money to people smugglers who have convinced them the UK is the go to place for refugees.

Anyway, the UK is a far more welcoming country for migrants/immigrants than France and probably most EU countries. Right or wrong ....the UK certainly does it's bit above most. Which I guess is the problem for some. So all this UK bashing is a complete nonsense. Do you mean U.K. government bashing or U.K. racism bashing?

Racism to a certain extent is relative to the observer. I heard John Barnes (black footballer) speaking on the radio after the English footballers had received racist abuse on social media. He made the comment that the English were the 'most hated in all of Europe'. Now I would have thought he is using personal experience and using the same criteria, I'm English and have lived in England, Scotland, Spain and France. As well as having worked in various overseas places including the Middle East, and in my experience I have received mostly kindness and friendship in all these places and the only times I have been subject to anything like racism was in Scotland and that certainly wasn't enough to make me complain to anybody. I am one of those that consider myself to be non-racist but I can understand the UK government standing by their mandate to reduce immigration as this was one of the main reasons they won the last election and they seem to be under pressure from the electorate to sort out the number of "illegal' immigrants that are arriving by boat . I guess this might make me a racist to some.

OMG how far back do we have to go to stop paying for our ancestors past activities? I've a feeling there are some Europeans that will be paying for generations to come.

America, South Africa, Palestine - to name a few areas that have become racist. But you are obviously selective?
Becoming too racist for me.

triumphant - I assume you are white English on your voting return. It's dangerous making assumptions simply based on what someone posts.
Look at nobody, for example, who says he's an expert on France.

As I’ve said, for people smugglers, getting people to the UK rather than mainland Europe is a lucrative business. However it’s not necessarily the land of milk and honey they were promised it would be despite what the tabloids would have you believe...

Sorry, I do assume too much. Perhaps there will be clarification.
Others inciude India, Syria, Saudi, Egypt, ...... etc, etc. Too many to mention. Let alone Iran.
The question is who is right?
It is a shame if its due to the fanatical religions of the countries involved eg the evangelical christians in the US or fanatical muslims elsewhere.
God knows.

What Paris has or doesn't have is beside the point: you said the UK does it's (sic) bit above most and is far more welcoming - where's your proof of that? Criminalising the rescue of people stranded at sea and making those people liable to up to 4 years' imprisonment is far from 'welcoming'.
