www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-kent-57999224This is utterly disgraceful - not only hurling abuse at those so desperate to risk anything to go where they want, but in particular, abusing their own who out of pure dedication put themselves at risk to save lives. What sickens me more is the abuse is hurled by those with much less stature than the volunteers, probably Daily mail readers and of course followers of the greatest of all racists, the Patel woman. The RNLI get another fiver a month from me if it helps to continue their good work!

I think it's important to bear in mind that the abuse comes from a very small number of people whose actions have unintentionally boosted the donations to the RNLI and perhaps more importantly led to a flood of requests to be lifeboat volunteers.

A real pity that one member of the crew isn't a police officer with powers of arrest. These small, vociferous, and obnoxious groups need to be put out in the Channel on one of the migrants' boats and left for several hours.

Apart from the fact that they wouldn't have the attention span, or the intelligence, to read an article in a newspaper, a lot of Daily Mail readers are decent people who would be against this sort of thing.

Those personning the lifeboats may be Mail or even Sun readers; they are certainly not readers of the Guardian who are too busy protesting and writing to the media about what was said/written.🤪

We can be certain that the offenders are not those who counter BLM by proclaiming "All lives matter." Or can we?

How do you know it’s a very small number of people out of interest? Most of my long term friends have now come out proud of their racism post the referendum and this far right Tory party…….

I hope I’m wrong but I suspect people are being primed to hate refugees as there’s going to be a lot more in the future due to the effects of climate change.

Being primed? It was one of the planks of the Brexit construction, and that plank was built on to the existing antipathy towards anyone daring to try to make a new life in England's green and peasant land.

These racist types - and I think there are more than many might think - and news rag writers, do they not watch the same news that we do. Crops rotting in the ground, supermarket shelves empty and the like, in main down to people shortage?
Surely (I was going to say we, but I can't stand the place) everyone should do their best to integrate society so that all can benefit from each other?

Yet people can’t see how the concept of letting immigrants in to do the menial tasks is in itself somewhat racist?
