Macron announced that you couldn't go to a cafe without one, compared with before. Is announced the right word ?

Don't worry, nobody is here to balance that debate. Talking of Covid, it is not looking too good in France according to Veran. He spoke a mo ago on BFM. Peeps on here can't blame Boris or Brexit for that. I tried to find the interview but couldn't. Perhaps you would be kind enough to post a link to it. France and Spain, like the UK, are experiencing a wave of delta variant infections..just 4 weeks or so later. As with the UK hospitalizations are increasing but far less than would be the case before vaccination, and as in the UK, the majority of the people hospitalized are non vaccinated...perhaps why Macron is taking such a hard line on vaccination. France has also not fully relaxed Covid measures...hence masks are still obligatory and curfews have been reintroduced in places like Corsica, where they have high infection and low vaccination rate. I don't see France as being in any worse a place than anywhere else really...better than many countries worldwide...but until all countries get access to the vaccine Covid will be here. And long may the mask rules continue. I read an article the other day from a set of Austrian researchers/ modellers where their researched showed that the UK was now at its greatest risk of a vaccine evading variant developing. This struck me as rather a strange conclusion until I realised what was behind their analysis. Until now variants have become dominant by virtue of their increased transmissibility. Uk variant (alpha) overtook the original one, only to be superseded by the Delta version. At some stage however the advantage of being more and more transmissible loses traction as more and more people have been vaccinated or have developed natural immunity (caught it and survived). At that point, a less transmissible version might take over if it can evade the vaccine and that becomes the more likely if you have ditched social distancing and mask wearing. The Austrians had calculated that the tip point between transmissibility and vaccine evasion was around 60% of the population being "protected" - roughly where the UK is now - and so reduction in "Hygiene" measures could just allow such a variant to get a real foothold.

France’sfavourite occupation is ‘manif’s’. They will go to one just because it’s on, not because of why!

France’sfavourite occupation is ‘manif’s’. They will go to one just because it’s on, not because of why! Ain’t that the truth.. As for countries and the relative level of vaccinations, a lot of the “stats” being thrown around in the MSM supposedly to give comparison between countries don’t really don’t really stand up to examination…some countries are defining the population as anybody over 12, some the over 18, some are eliminating from the headcount those that cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons….the more reputable medical sites are trying their best to make it coherent and point out/eliminate the differences in metrics but some.. Anyhow now that I’ve given the media a kicking here’s a report, accurate or not, that won’t go down well in some quarters… EU rates overtaking UK

Went out to eat and afterwards to a concert last night. Health pass not asked for at the restaurant but was checked at the concert. The majority of the audience kept their masks on for the concert.

Quite correct. In restaurants required from Monday, whereas in venues like concerts welcoming more than 50 people, been required for a couple of weeks now.

Ok UK took an advantage over other countries by going all out, (with business wisdom!), for AZ.
Its becoming obvious that AZ is not as effective as others used in the west especially for variants.
Even the UK now favours other vaccines now.
Though, AZ, hopefully. will play a massive role in other poorer countries purely from logistic issues.
However I find it hard to believe that now it will be for a no profit basis.
How bizarre that the UK government is still pushing how well they have done.

Yes, it's the same article, Linda, Plog just turned the words 'EU rates overtaking UK' into a link (don't feel embarrassed to ask how, many people don't know).

Maybe not so obvious that the AZ vaccine isn’t as effective as others - although further results are needed to prove this: rightsandwrongs.co.uk/astrazeneca-vaccine-may-give-longer-immunity/

There was a couple interviewed at a manifestation yesterday, grandparents, who said they were protesting against the possibility of their grandchildren being obliged to have the vaccination; parents and grandparents accept that childhood vaccinations against measles, mumps, rubella, and tetanus are necessary, so why do they all get up in arms about adding COVID to the list?

I suspect if social media had been around “back in the day”, or even Pasteurs day, there would have similar “down with that sort of thing” campaigns…

It is a protest against Macron. It is not about vaccination.
