I am surprised that people found it difficult to accept that there would be a huge number of trucks returning to Europe in the Xmas -10 to Xmas -3 period.
How do you think all of those Clementines got delivered to the supermarkets? Or the Dutch butter? Or the Danish bacon joints? or, or or. I have news for you. Santa does not deliver these goods as a dry run for Christmas Eve.

Who is finding it difficut to accept Exile? - Not me, the drivers reception clerk explained and said its usual but the Port & P&O had staffing problems, as I said earlier I think there must have been another seperate problem at Eurotunnel. I won't answer your question because it does not relate to me, I guess it is rhetorical but you did say "I have news for you" who were you addressing?
I never travel in the week before Xmas, this was my last cut off date, never been delayed before, given the rush to book before Saturday and it being the end of the working week tomorrow will probably be worse.

Good luck. Hope all goes well for your journey. We hope to be travelling to Germany from France next week for Christmas and to see our one week old granddaughter. So glad they are in Germany and not the UK with all the hoops to jump through at present. Great news that you have a new granddaughter. Congratulations and hope all goes well for your lots of hugs visit Thank you so much. I can't wait. First granchild and female! After having 3 boys myself, it is so nice to look at and make pretty things.

We have decided not to try and make that shuttle today, it was all very tight and close, we could have driven all the way to Folkstone and not received the antigen certificate, also we questioned the morality of travelling/crossing a border during a peak time in infections in both countries, France will probably be in exactly the same situation as the UK in a few weeks time, so we will ride out the current wave here in the UK and travel when the situation is better for both countries, very dissapointed, but we feel its the correct decision........

Johnny, it is disappointing for you, but I beleive it is the right decision.
It is just a shame that many seem to want to make the journey!

Sorry it was not aimed at you. It was aimed at the doubting Thomas who did not believe what you reported you had seen, I was trying to express that it came as absolutely no surprise to me since this time of year there are huge deliveries into the UK and the drivers need to get back home for Christmas - hence huge tailbacks. Probably started a few days earlier this year with Christmas falling on a weekend and because there will be a level of protection against Brexit rules delaying transits across the Channel - potentially both directions.

I realise how disappointed you and your wife just feel but, at heart, I agree with your decision. Our son and I have spent the past few days debating about him coming over here for Christmas .. but last night we mutually decided it was no go. Zoom again this year .. safe but sad.

Those who are staying put are very wise; if you look at the infection figures in Figaro ( I cant get a link to work) département by département you will see that they have gone through the roof and are still rising. Given the failure to distinguish between delta and the other it is impossible to know which is driving this huge rise. Numbers are probably about as high as UK if you take into account the differences in recording cases and deaths. I am hunkering down for Xmas alone in France, Madame in UK, but daughter and grandchild are coming from Belgium on 28th where the number of cases seems much lower and where shutdown has been tighter.
Plus a case of decent red!

There doesn't seem to be any doubt about the R number and growth rate of the Omicron variant, even if France does only have 150 cases as claimed (likely to be higher) then that will equal the 10k UK cases reported(at the same time)within 6-14 days.
If it turns out to not be as lethal as the first wave of CV19 then the restrictions should be rapidly dropped, I don't think any government should be criticised for reacting promptly and effectively, they have after all been accused of the opposite from the beginning.
What is upsetting to me is to read reports and hear the same rubbish first hand that Boris is only doing it to deflect from the scandal of the moment and that Macron is doing it because giving the English a kicking is always popular with the French, were both countries dictatorships then that might have some credibility but they are neighbours, trading partners and there are a lot more people involved than the heads of state.

Thanks and my apologies for my defensiveness as a result of the trolling. No need for apology. I should have posted more clearly and probably started that I fully agreed with you.

I’m so sorry you’ve had to decide not to travel to your property, Johnny, it must be so disappointing. I do feel that it’s the right, the wise, thing to do and I’m sure that you’ll enjoy your impromptu Christmas - sending all good wishes to you and your family for Christmas and for 2022. I’ll be eagerly following your plans for your next trip.
