We have decided not to try and make that shuttle today, it was all very tight and close, we could have driven all the way to Folkstone and not received the antigen certificate, also we questioned the morality of travelling/crossing a border during a peak time in infections in both countries, France will probably be in exactly the same situation as the UK in a few weeks time, so we will ride out the current wave here in the UK and travel when the situation is better for both countries, very dissapointed, but we feel its the correct decision........ What a shame, but now you have made your decision, you will be able to let go of all the potential stress about travel to and fro and the consequences. Have a great Christmas. We will take a lateral flow test (home kit) although we don't have to before we make the final arrangements for travel to Germany on Thursday. Hotel and parking still to book in Paris. Travel is so uncertain again.

The big problem was at Eurotunnel from what I could see, the stack of trucks going back several miles was preventing vehicles from leaving at the Eurotunnel exit, those who tried the Police were directing towards Dover, I guess to come off at the next junction 1 go back 2 junctions and join the back of the stack of trucks, unless you can access the Eurotunnel terminal from the Easbound carriageway.
You can access Eurotunnel from the A20 if you leave the M20 at junction 11 and use the A20

I presume your talking about back into France in which case no, the new regulations don't come into force until Saturday. We are currently inbound into the UK on the ferry and have our PCR tests at Southampton tomorrow morning.

Thanks for that, looking at the map when I was diverted during a big time Operation Stack it was by the A260 via Hawkinge, a long way around the houses literally and physically.
Perhaps the A20 link was not made or operational back then having not before seen the need or perhaps it too was clogged with HGV's.
In fact when I joined the M20 there were signs telling HGV drivers for Eurotunnel and Dover to take the A20 so I reckon had I been able to see it that would have been even more blocked, the A2 Jubilee way into Dover was blocked by queuing HGVs.

Yes, I'd not thought about the possible consequences of catching even a mild omicron Covid infection and the possible resulting delays getting back to France. I did have a Eurotunnel booking. But a few days before I was due to travel I started to get messages from friends in England pointing out how many of their contacts (mostly without boosters) had contracted Covid and how they were planning extra precautions and limiting their Christmas celebrations. Having seen that article I decided to remain here.

Johnny so sorry after all your efforts it’s still a no go. Sadly as you say you have taken the right decision and let’s hope we can all travel more freely next year. Some people have said there is an element of politics in the way this ban was introduced, but let’s not go there, just rejoice that for the moment we are well, have got plenty of food and booze to see us through the holidays.

So sorry JD. A real bummer but possibly a good choice given who can guess what rules will be in place after Xmas for what would have been the return. OH's deferred trip to Scotland looks like it will be again deferred if this gets much worse - and I think it will.

Not to mention the uncertainty during the stay and trying to get Covid testing over the holiday period when there will be a lot of demand from French nationals for the same reason.

JD, you made absolutely the right decision to postpone the trip.
Our daughter planned to go to a birthday party last week, but decided at the last minute to cancel. This morning we heard that all 36 people who attended the party have since tested positive for the new variant.
Some say they were extra careful, wore masks, kept themselves to themselves and were only there for an hour or so, but...
This new variant seems so contagious that I wouldn't be surprised to see another strict lockdown after Xmas.
