Mr. Mélenchon has only called for his supporters NOT to vote for LePen. He didn't say they should vote for Mr.Macron. Maybe they won't vote? Still plenty of others though and the other candidates other than Zemmour seem to be calling for their supporters to lend their support to Macron.

Have decided to apply for french nationality. Should have done it years ago. I might apply once my youngest is French, which will be next year if MLP doesn't get rid of the droit du sol by then. My French has got worse in the last few years though, with being even more of a hermit than usual during covid times and hardly using it, so once I know where I'm living for a while and am a bit more settled, I'll hit that - I might even move somewhere that has lessons nearby! Or maybe I'll just wait until I can claim it without the language pressures in another ten years (if I'm still around and it still feels important by then and if MLP et al haven't put a stop to that route).

While most of the world support Ukraine (albeit from a distance), or more likely against Putin, MLP has decided she will get out of NATO. So she will likely help Putin then: only last month.

And no doubt she would do her best to make a nuisance within the EU. Another bonus for Putin.

I'm not too phased by MLP being pres as she'll find it hard to get her policies through due to the lack of support she has in parliament.

The issue isn't so much the number of doctors (which is increasing) it's the fact that very few newly qualified doctors want to practice in rural areas and that has got worse in the last ten years. I asked my MT about the shortage recently and he said that for every 10,000 retiring only 5000 qualify to replace them. Yes, there is the issue of attracting doctors to rural areas. The current system of profession liberale makes it very hard for rural based doctors to make a decent living, where they can usually only charge conventionee rates. Add in isolation, the fact that most doctors have partners and families and these partners are often professionals in their own right, with their own careers to attend to. They don't want to hang around being the doctors secretary. These points could be helped by introducing salaried posts with contracts and providing subsidies to ease some of the financial burden, but shortage of doctors is also a problem.

AFAIK the language exam exemption for 60+ ended last year.

Not that I know of. www.service-public.fr/particuliers/vosdroits/F33430

Is that from personal experience? Not the marriage bit, sadly, but mixed-couple friends had a very different experience to ours. You can imagine the pressure put on the foncs at Bordeaux at the height of the Brexit panic...the average wait for naturalisation in 2017/8 was two years. Friends who applied in 2020 had theirs within a year. Would you come under the Bdx cachement area?

It took just under 2 years from the date of the dossier going in (it took us about 3 months to get the dossier together but we could have done that quicker if we had put our mind to it). The person that did our interview said they were prioritising Brits at the time.
